OUGD601 PPP DBA External Brief

For our second meeting we came up with some areas that we needed to research thoroughly. This included hyperloop it's self and the technology it uses, the location of hyperloop a first track and the identity of those places and travel branding as a whole including how a travel company identity works in the user experience of traveling.
Myself and Josiah split the hyperloop technology subject between us. Once again we caused collaborative Pinterest board to bring together the information.

Josiah found the original document releasing the idea of hyper loop:
http://www.spacex.com/sites/spacex/files/hyperloop_alpha-20130812.pdf

We both read through this and split up the tech into the tube and the pod, I took the tube.

What was fascinating about the project as a whole is the open source nature of it. From the start the information has been freely available because the Space x program just want someone to make it and it is a huge project that one company couldn't achieve alone. This is a great theme to draw on for the branding; the fact that it is something that from the start has been an open collaborative effort for the benefit of all and as such customers would be contributing to maintaining a great open project, almost like a co-op board of sorts.

This brief also has great timing because the competition to design the pods for hyperloop has just been won by a team of engenders and scientists at MIT, so we have a better idea than ever of what we are designing for product wise.

Anyway, back to the tech.

Although the majority of the thrust for the movement of the pod comes from electromagnetic engines on the pod its self there will be booster engines built into the interior surface to the tube at relevant intervals to increase and decrease speed accordingly. The tube would be suspended 30metres above the ground on pillars that would be built to flex and move with temperature changes and earthquakes. Minimal curving of the tube will occur because of the G force that passengers would be put under during the direction changes would be to extreme. The enclosed nature of the tube means that it is weather proof, as well as an effective damper of sound pollution. The top of the tubes will be occupied by solar panels which will completely power the train. The power from the solar panels will be stored in the form of compressed air that when released powers a fan which in turn re generates electricity through the rotation of an electro magnet. This will be so efficient that if a the wider tube diameter is chosen it will generate more energy than it requires and could contribute to the national grid.

the fact that this knowledge is widely accessible is something that we agreed should be highlighted and we decided that a possible concept could be transparency of how it works. In other words transparency of functionality. As such we also looked into the technical drawings of the mechanisms and how engines are drawn because this could be a visual hook of the project. We even thought about using the key blueprint blue as the main colour for the bran. At this moment in time these are just ideas, but to test the water I want to see if I can learn more about technical engendering drawings by doing some myself.

The concepts we have so far are:
- Transparency of functionality
- Lighter that air travel (the air cushions of the mechanism)
- Speed
- division (of responsibilities open source info)
